Experience is the key to success.  Whether in the competitive corporate marketplace or in the remote reaches of Africa, I have a proven track record of delivering award winning storytelling for America’s most influential corporations.  My ability to excel in all aspects of production (Producing, Editing & Director of Photography)  has earned an amazing 15 Emmy Awards, 2 Associated Press Awards, 2 UPI Awards and a News Corp. Global Excellence nomination throughout the course of my career.

ABOUT BYRON

Byron M Goggin began his career at a top ten market NBC affiliate in Detroit as a news editor where he remained for 2 years. He was promoted to “Special Projects Videographer/ Editor” where he filmed and edited Emmy Award winning programs including Dateline NBC with Chris Hansen and Ann Thompson.  His job was expanded to include “Commercial Production Director of Photography”, and “Special Project Coordinator”.

In 2001 Byron accepted the position of “Chief Photographer/Editor” at Fox Sports Net. His duties included shooting “live” sporting events pre and post game shows. Byron was promoted to Special Projects Manager where he was responsible for the overall quality of programming, shooting and editing feature packages, development of strategies and technical plans for major sporting events including the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, NCAA playoffs, NBA Finals, Super Bowl, MLB World Series, Ryder Cup Golf, and NASCAR events.

Byron was nominated for FOX News Corps “Global Excellence Award”, an honor given to only a few in the FOX worldwide network. Byron went on to win a total of SIX Emmys for his outstanding work in photography, field production, and directing at FSN.

In 2005 Byron left his position at FOX, to launch his own production company which instantly gained national recognition with the production of “Wild Weekend Adventures”, which aired on PBS, winning 7 Emmy Awards and 2 Associated Press awards. n 2010 Byron moved from Detroit to Los Angeles to create and develop programming for the Discovery Channel, National Geographic, History Channel, SPIKE and BBC America. His list of photography and DP credits include the highest rated cable programs like Ice Road Truckers, Wicked Tuna, COAL, Wild Justice, Monster Garage (MCM), and Black Gold.

To this day Byron’s passions lie in shooting and producing stories and documentaries that affect change and spotlight the unbreakable human spirit. “Seizing Opportunity”  was one of his first feature length films that told the story of NASA’s George Gloeckler and the first generation space explorers. This documentary took Byron to Washington DC, Germany, Austria and Switzerland where he filmed and handled original documents and photographs from the first landing on the moon.

Features like “Voices of the Inside Passage” exposed the dangers of transboundary mining and it’s effects on a multi-billion dollar fishing industry.  This documentary won his company acclaim at the Colorado Environmental Film Festival and was viewed by tens of thousands on social media.

Between 2014 and 2016 Byron spent a significant amount of time in Africa traveling to places like Botswana, Kenya, South Africa and Ethiopia.  There he filmed and produced conservation efforts throughout the regions bringing light to various issues including, but not limited to, wildlife conservation.  Byron and his partner were the first documentarians to capture, on film, the illusive Abyssinian Lion in the depths of the Harenna Cloud Forest within Ethiopias Bale Mountain National Park.  While cinematography is Byron’s passion, he recalls,  “My most fulfilling memories of being a part of conservation team was teaching the indigenous people how to play baseball with sticks and plastic bottles and helping dig ditches to bring a community clean, fresh, drinking water. It’s all about being human and touching peoples lives”.

Today, Byron lives in Clarkston, MI working on contract basis with his company, Byron Goggin StoryWorks.  He incorporates all of his skills to tell stories that convey key messaging for Fortune 500 companies, national news organizations and network television.  His latest independent documentary, “Kiss the Babies”, released in 2023, has won acclaim in numerous film festivals around the United States and recently won 2 Emmy Awards.  To learn more, and see the documentary, simply click on the “Kiss the Babies” tab in the menu of this website.

Sailboat Racing

Ever wonder how sausage was made? Me neither. If I sat down and thought about it, I probably would no longer enjoy one of my favorite breakfast side dishes. In the summer of 2006, I had the pleasure to be a crew-member on board one of the sailing yachts racing...
